We may say mental health is the healthy exercise of our mental abilities and capabilities. It is often difficult to describe what it really means. Mentally healthy person is the one that can interact with people well. People who are able to handle changes and diversity are said to be mentally healthy. The truth is that we may not know who is mentally healthy or not. We start to notice when people act strangely and not conforming to norms. Often times, when we see people with less than stellar mental health we choose to ignore it.
Without about, good mental health is something we don’t really give much attention to. We don’t really care even if we start noticing changes like mood swings and low tolerance happening. We may feel gloomy for an extended period of time, but we don’t find it something alarming. The fact is we are going through life without realizing the value of our mental health. We don’t give much thought about it. We or someone we know may suffer from depression. Depression is one of the most common forms of mental disorders. There are other disorders that happen out there. Most of them go undetected until they become serious and start impacting the quality of life. The failure of recognizing these problems often lead to bigger costs. Another thing, people may not be amendable to get treated due to potential social backlash of having a mental disorder.
A lot of people think mental health is separate from physical health. In reality, mental health can impact physical health in many cases. Some physical illness may contribute to the surfacing of mental disorders. Women may suffer from mild depression after giving birth. They also suffer from minor forms of mental health challenges when they are pregnant. The fact is hormonal changes can cause problems that may reflect in the physical realm of the body. People who are not getting enough sleeps can develop anxiety disorders. Too much stress from work can lead to problems in the mind and body.
It is important to be worried when mental health goes down. People who are not in the right state of mind may not eat or sleep well. People may become sicker than they are. Thinking a lot can cause problems too.
The key is to know what mental health is all about. To get treated, it is important to be aware of the situation. Bigger problems may ensue if the person gets no treatment at all.
